Statement on Roe v. Wade and Securing a Pro Life Michigan

In what can only be described as a banner month for conservatives (June 2022), the US supreme court has released several opinions which have defended 2nd amendment rights, protected the free exercise of religion, and most notably determined that abortion is not a constitutional right thereby overturning Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. This last stunning achievement is the result of the case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, in which the court held that “The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives.” It is difficult to express in words the debt owed to the multi-generational pro-life movement whose countless hours of prayer, petitioning, educating, and volunteering over the past 50 years have made this moment possible. Much gratitude is also owed to our former president Donald J. Trump who promised to appoint justices that would recognize the sanctity and dignity of every life and act accordingly. President Trump kept his promise. We celebrate this victory for the pro-life cause with all like-minded citizens, and we recognize that, despite many claims to the contrary, this decision to return the “authority to regulate abortion” back to “we the people” and to our representatives is a tremendous win for true democracy in our nation.

In light of this landmark ruling, continued efforts are needed especially here in Michigan where a 1931 abortion law is at risk of being negated by our radically pro-abortion governor Gretchen Whitmer and by a deceptive and extremist “Reproductive Freedom for All” petition seeking to amend the Michigan constitution. The proposed amendment would allow for abortions through nine months of pregnancy for “mental health” reasons and provide protection for abusers and others who would seek to procure an abortion for a minor without their parent’s knowledge. Depending on the number of signatures collected, we could see this amendment proposal on the ballot in November. Paid signature harvesters are being deployed throughout the state for this petition so please educate your friends and family and BE CAREFUL not to sign any petition without knowing the full details and legal language.

Future generations are depending upon us, and while we cannot bring back the 60 million lives lost to the heinous practice of abortion, together we can defend the unborn in Michigan and restore to all our children the simple right to exist.

For current pro-life updates and to join the fight, please visit the Michigan Right to Life website at https://rtl.org.

We also invite our fellow Lapeer County residents to join us in promoting conservative values in our county and beyond. The Lapeer County Republican Party meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7pm. The location varies so please check our online calendar for the specifics: https://www.lapeergop.com/calendar.

Convention of States

9/29/2021

WHY CALL A CONVENTION OF STATES?  Simple: to bring power back to the states and the people, where it belongs. Unelected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. shouldn’t be allowed to make sweeping decisions that impact millions of Americans. But right now, they do. So it all boils down to one question: Who do you think should decide what’s best for you and your family? You, or the feds? We’d vote for the American people every single time.

WHAT’S A CONVENTION OF STATES ANYWAY?  Article V of the U.S. Constitution gives states the power to call a Convention of States to propose amendments. It takes 34 states to call the convention and 38 to ratify any amendments that are proposed. Our convention would only allow the states to discuss amendments that, “limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, impose fiscal restraints, and place term limits on federal officials.”

SO IS THERE ANY PROGRESS? You better believe it! Since the Project launched in 2013, it's been spreading like wildfire. With over 3 million supporters nationwide, there are petition signers in every single state house district across America. People are actively working in all fifty states to pass the Convention of States Application!
